|There will be intermittent outages for the 10Gbps circuit carrying Internnet2 traffic beginning at 8:00 AM Monday, December 16th, and ending at 5:00 PM EST. These outages are being initiated by the Oak Ridge National Laboratory to upgrade the optical carrier network links between Atlanta, GA and Chattanooga, TN. This work is necessary to prepare and upgrade the optical carrier network to 100Gbps capability. Additionally, intermittent outages for the optical carrier network are scheduled for Tuesday, December 17th, beginning at 8:00AM and concluding at 8:00PM EST. Due to the extended nature of this event, the Office of Information Technology has determined this to be an appropriate time to upgrade equipment at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory to support the forthcoming 100Gbps circuit to Internet2. OIT Network Services will begin work at 8:00AM EST on December 17th to replace the Force10 Networks E300 router with a 100Gbps capable Cisco ASR platform. Network Services is scheduling this outage from 8:00AM until 5:00PM EST. During this time Internet2 service and commodity internet service through Level3 Communications will be unavailable. As well, facilities serviced by OIT at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory will be network connectivity during this time. These facilities are: The Joint Institute for Computational Science The Joint Institute for Neutron Science Pro2Serve Facility at ORNL OIT Network Services will endeavor to restore service to these facilities as quickly as possible during this outage. During this event, direct peering between the Chattanooga and Knoxville Campuses will be unavailable. The Chattanooga campus will also be without Internet2 service during the duration of this work . Internet service for The University of Tennessee, Knoxville will be available during this time via NetTN/AT&T.
